Biography

I am an artist, illustrator, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth’s School of Architecture, Art and Design, with nearly two decades of experience in higher education. Primarily supporting Interior Architecture and Design students, my responsibilities have included leading both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with current teaching focused on the MA Interior Architecture and Design course, coordinating the HopePunk module.
My art practice has developed over many years, where I have explored ways to represent space and time, our human postion within the cosmos, abstract mapping, collage narratives, and colour compositions – all using hand-crafted methods. Completing an MA in Illustration helped refine my creative approach, and I now focus on producing narrative collages that communicate social, political, environmental, and heritage themes.
Before entering academia, I worked as Associate Director at BDP, one of Europe’s largest interdisciplinary design practices, leading interior design teams on a wide range of award-winning projects, including corporate headquarters for BT and Roche Pharmaceuticals, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, and Glasgow Science Centre. Earlier professional experience includes interior design roles with Hampshire County Architects and Hassell Architects in Australia.
My teaching experience spans secondary, further, and higher education. A full-time postgraduate qualification in education was completed at the Institute of Education, UCL (2006), followed by a PGCTLHE at the University of Portsmouth (2009). I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
